But if you can get past all of the gore and overall creepiness it is so great to say the least.

Fight club is about a man who has developed a separate personality a.k.a Tyler Durden. Sometimes Tyler spoke for him other times Tyler taught the narrator. It is definitely tragic overall that these set of events happened to him and this book/movie definitely made you think. I personally watched the movie before the book which I know is frowned upon but I still couldn’t quite follow the book. I definitely wouldn’t have understood if I haven’t watched the movie. Chuck Palahniuk is the author my favorite author actually but his writing style is so gruesome but makes you want to keep reading.

But all aside this book has caused danger when in wrong hands. People made a “fight club” in a basement of a bar in the book. So people read this and decided to do it in real life. It quickly got shut down not from cops but from people just generally getting hurt. Also I don’t know how much more I can recommend this book but the actor who plays Tyler Durden is Brad Pitt so if you’re into that.

At the beginning of this book you are greeted with a man who has insomnia meaning he cannot sleep. He then goes cancer groups,cell groups, brain groups all people who were drying.”If I didn’t say anything people in the group assumed the worse.” (Page 22) He thought that when people thought you were dying that’s when they really listened. After going to these support groups and crying he would then go home and sleep which made him so happy because again insomnia.

After going to these support groups for quite some time now a woman finally shows up named Marla Singer. She lights her cigarette takes a hit then asks to the crowd “this is testicular cancer right”. She showed up to all of the narrators support groups which means he couldn’t sleep which yet again means he couldn’t sleep. He planned and examined all of the possible situations going over it in his head multiple times ultimately deciding he would grab her and say “Marla I need this now get out!”. Although that did not go as planned. He started to stutter and she said things that he didn’t factor in after a lot of bickering they go to a Laundromat where Marla steals jeans and decide to split up the groups.

The narrator's job was he worked for a major car company traveling around the world to review cars that have been in horrific accidents. But if the accident was to expensive to fix they did not fix it this will come into play later. In the book the narrator meets Tyler durden on a nude beach where he is chopping wood. As for the movie they meet on a plane which is more discreet. Either way the narrator’s house is caught on fire while he is away. He is embarrassed because he sees his fridge exploded with all condiments and no food. Tyler Durden makes and sells soap. He gives the narrator his card. After his house blows up he has no one else to call so he calls Tyler to get drinks. After drinks they go outside Tyler then proceeds to laugh at the narrator saying “3 pints of beer and you still can’t ask? All you have to do is ask.”. The narrator then asks if he can stay with Tyler while his appartment is being prepared. Tyler said yes but on one condition. “I want you to hit me as hard as you can” (page 46) . The narrator baffled by this then proceeds to ask multiple questions like “I’ve never been in a fight and where do I hit you”. After what feels like minutes of confusion they then proceed to fight. Tyler got the narrator a job in the food industry. They were the guerrilla terrorist’s of the food industry. They soon went out of business by getting sued of “urine content in soup”. But that didn’t matter Tyler had multiple jobs. He worked at a movie theater changing the films when needed. If you look in the top right corner of the screen you will see a small white that indicates film change. “In the industry we call those cigarette burns”. But there is a small in between films switching. During that time Tyler slices in one frame of pornogrophy. A humming bird couldn’t catch Tyler at work.

Tyler and the narrator fought outside the bar every week and picked up quite a crowd. “It was on the tip of our tongues Tyler just gave it a name.” They went to the basement of the beatdown bar all you hear is Tyler’s stern voice saying “gentlemen … welcome to fight club” The number one rule was you do not talk about it. But it begins to grow so much bigger. People start talking and in comes project mayhem. The Narrator was not informed about. In project mayhem a member dies and they decide to bury him right away. The narrator loses it and screams “This is not some body this was Bob and he was my friend. His name was Robert Paulson”. Everyone starts to repeat him chanting it. And like that Tyler was gone. Narrator searched all over until he finally figured out that he is Tyler Durden… They get into one last fight and then holds a gun to his mouth and says “Tyler my eyes are open” and Tyler says “together” The narrator amazingly survives the blast and goes into a mental hospital. I did not spoil this I didn’t give it proper justification. I would say it is one of my favorite books. ...more "
