" For my goodreads book I read the novel Hiroshima by John Hersey. The book takes place during the 1940 in Japan when the American army was dropping bombs on the people of Japan. This affects the novel because it is being told from the point of view of For my goodreads book I read the novel Hiroshima by John Hersey. The book takes place during the 1940 in Japan when the American army was dropping bombs on the people of Japan. This affects the novel because it is being told from the point of view of someone who is not an American. We usually hear stories and the history of what Americans have done from the American’s point of view so the setting and how it is viewed plays a large part in the novel.
There are six main characters that the book focuses on. The six main character are those few of the survivors at Hiroshima. Mrs. Hatsuyo Nakamura is a widow with three children, her and her children faced tremendous poisonings and radiation for years after the bombings. Dr. Terufumi Sasaki is a surgeon at the red cross that helped treat thousands of dying and injured people that were injured from the bombing. Father Wilhelm Kleinsorge comforts the people that were dying and even helps a woman with their will to live and the lady even eventually becomes a nun at his church. Toshiko Sasaki is the women who works at the factory who hurt her leg and eventually become a nun. Dr. Massakazu is another doctor, his practice is destroyed when the bombs hit. When the bombs hit he was to badly injured to be able to help anyone. Reverend Mr. Kiyosh Tanimoto is methodist pasture who helps people when the fire starts around the city. He later starts giving speeches in America and on television. The major conflict in the book is the people and the bombs being dropped and those fighting for their lives to survive.
I enjoyed the book for the most part. I thought it was cool that the perspective of the Americans dropping the bombs on the Japanese from from the people that actually lived that there and not from our point of view. When we hear about the history of events when do not usually hear it from a point of view of someone who lives in America. The only things I really did not like was how wordy the book was and the other would kind of drag out what he was trying to say until he got the point.
If I were to suggest this book to someone it would be to people who are interested in history and non fiction books. Also I would suggest the book to people who enjoy learning what it was actually like for the people experiencing what was going on. I would not read the book again considering that it was history book and now I have learned about it so I do not need to read it again but I did enjoy it. ...more "
