I decided to start with this book as I entered Celaena Sardothien's world since it is composed of five novellas of the past life of Celaena before the Throne of Glass. I don't know yet what difference this decision will make, but I'll find that out sooner or later.

Action-packed. That was my first impression of this book. It is one of the best aspects that made me love this along with the characters, the writing, and the plot. Of course, how can I forget the romantic element in here? I love that the fighting scenes were very detailed that I have clear visions of what is happening in the scenes.

The plot and writing style was unbelievably great! Kudos to SJM for writing this beautiful book. I was totally one with the characters as I was reading. The way their emotions and feelings were written was perfect. The twists? My gosh. I am speechless. Those characters who I wouldn't even thought of betraying Celaena made the whole reading experience even better.

The characters were greatly honed that I began to hate some myself and love some as well. And they weren't even what I thought they were at first, which made me love this more.

Celaena is indeed a badass assassin! No wonder why she had that kind of attitude. Contrary to that, even though she seemed merciless on her job, I learned that she has a soft side too. (view spoiler) I loved that the gradual development of her love interest was there. And I love that she used that to keep on going with her life.

Arobynn, the cruel King of the Assassins. I can't seem to understand him, and I won't ever forgive him for all of the things he has done. (view spoiler) Still, he made a great story out of this book with his evil acts, and I think that is enough for him to be acknowledged as one of the great characters of the book.

Sam Cortland. The ever loving and caring Sam. I was spoiled with his fate when I was watching a pronunciation guide of the names, but that didn't stop me from loving Sam's character. I love that he was doing everything up to his last breathe in the name of love. I find him cute as he was trying to tell Celaena what he was feeling through his actions. (view spoiler) I loved him that even when I was prepared for his fate (though I wasn't expecting that it will end with this book since I thought he will last for two or more books), I was also shattered when it happened. It was so tragic that if I was in Celaena's shoes, I won't even manage to move at all, yet do what she did.

Everything in this book was perfect for me, no wonder I gave it five stars. I am in no position to say that this series deserves the hype since I have only read one book, but I'll say it anyway. It really does deserve all the hype, and I am thankful that I decided to engage in this world. ...more "
