Here are some of the main conflicts.First the story is based kids who have committed a crime,and instead of being sent to jail they go to camp greenlake. Stanley ,however was innocent. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time , his so called crime was stealing a baseball player’s shoes. Their job was to dig holes at camp green lake. Stanley friend zero was fed up with digging holes and being mocked, that he ran away from camp green lake. Stanley went out and found him. They decided to climb a mountain called big thumb, in search for water. The conflict lies here, zero had drunk a drink called sploosh which made him incredibly sick. He threw up the whole way. Stanley and zero almost died from dehydration up the mountains since they didn’t have any water. Next after the mountain they returned to camp greenlake. They decided to dig one last final whole in search for treasure. Once they dug it out, they found the treasure but right below stanley was a lizard nest. These lizards weren’t ordinary, they were dangerous. They could kill with one attack.The lizards crawled on him and stanley had to stay still for a whole day in that dangerous situation. They soon left his body and stanley crawled out. His lawyer found out he was innocent and him and zero were allowed to leave camp.
I liked this book because it showed that stanley is a good hearted person. Even though he didn’t commit the crime, he still went and dug holes without complaining or doing anything bad. What I didn’t like was how the story mainly focused on Stanley and zero. Nobody else really. This connects to the theme of “my place in the world” because stanley learned who his true self was. He thought his family was cursed. He learned that his place in the world isn’t to be cursed at camp, that it’s to be helpful and honest, and to make his way back home to his family. For example when he carried zero up the mountain.He could’ve quit and just said he was always doomed. No he didn’t, he helped him and ended the curse. Even after everything he learned, he knew his place wasn’t at camp green lake, it was at home. I recommend this for kids who like stories of kids who don’t give up. ...more "

There were lot’s of conflicts in the story for example, Johnny killing bob. What led up to that was Ponyboy had gotten into an argument at home and decided to run to the lot where Johnny was. As Johnny and Ponyboy talked, they were just tired of the greasers and Socs being enemies.(The greasers are the hoods and socs were upper class with money, the greasers and socs were enemies of each other). That they were just frustrated with everything going on in there lives .The socs at the time were angry at ponyboy and Johnny for hanging out with Cherry, who was the girlfriend of a soc named bob. The socs attacked and out of panic that they would drown ponyboy, Johnny killed bob with a knife. Another conflict was the burning of Johnny. After ponyboy and Johnny killed Bob, they went on the run. They hid out in a church for a week. They were clumsy with their cigarettes though. They had forgotten to be careful with them. As they went out for lunch with Dally, when they came back, the church was on fire with kids inside. Out of guilt that it was there faults, Ponyboy and Johnny went in to save the kids but as a result, Johnny got burned in the fire. One more conflict were the deaths of Johnny and Dally. Once they got back home from the fire, Johnny was in the hospital.He was slowly dying. Not too long afterwards Johnny died. This was a huge shock to the greasers, they didn't know Johnny condition had gotten this bad. This drove dally insane, Johnny was somebody Dally truly loved. This led to Dally robbing a store. The cops came after dally, and as Dally raised his gun, the cops fired. Ponyboy thought this is what Dally wanted.
I liked this book because it tells a story about how life can be for some people. That not everybody’s life is easy and happy . That some have to go through horrible things everyday. Also I enjoyed how it describes the feelings and emotions in the story. For example when ponyboy said” Johnny not dead”, it was because this feeling of Johnny being dead hurt him so much he didn’t want to accept it. What I didn’t like was how they didn’t give us information or focus more on how the lives were for people like two-bit and steve.
This novel connects to the theme “my place in the world”, because it shows where pony boy stands in the world. That he’s a greaser and is proud to be one. That there are differences between socs and greasers. That ponyboy doesn’t have to be mean,and tough in the world. He can stay gold like Johnny said in his dying breath,he can stay gold in the world.I recommend this book for people who like realistic fiction, and aren’t afraid to see how hard some people’s lives are. ...more "

What I liked about the book was the action and suspense of horror. Even though some parts can be brutal and horrifying parts. It kept it interesting. For example a horrifying part, was where the bandits threatened to cut villagers hands off, if they didn’t give information. Also harsh beatings, with suspense of not knowing what’s about to happen.
The main setting of this story was mostly in the jungle of west Africa. The characters were a army squad including mitch,nelson,two moons,benny,tug, and gaz. There squad was named Delta unit.There were a few conflicts in this story. First when the squad arrived in the jungle for a mission to rescue an african freedom fighter named mwanga, they were attacked right off the back. The bandits knew they were coming somehow. They defeated that small group of attackers and moved on. The next conflict is when they discovered a village while looking for mwanga. The people were being attacked and beaten by bandits. They threatened to cut off the villagers hand if they didn’t have the information that they wanted. Mitch and his team defeated those 4 bandits.
One villager showed thanks by showing his quad where mwanga was being captive. The next conflict was a hotel with bandit guards surrounding it(that had mwanga captive in it). With lots of preparation, Mitch’s team was ready for the rescue. As they entered they had to wipe out lots of guys, but found mwanga and broke him out. It was all about to be over until their escape car was hit with an explosion.Half of the squad got away but mitch got caught. Mitch woke up tied to a tree. The bandits leader nglo was in front of him. He threatened to cut off his arm if he didn’t tell him where mwanga was taken. Luckily Mitch’s team came back and took the guys down. They all escaped and passed the mission
This story connects to the unit theme because of the suspense and horror. For example when they entered the hotel and it was really quiet, you didn’t know what was about to happen. You had to try to anticipate what was about to happen, but didn’t know creating suspense. A new insight for me was hope for the suspense of the story, to create the thrill of the genre horror. I would recommend this book to others because he had lots of action, a little suspense and horror, and you also learn things about warfare that you didn’t know before. ...more "
