Jordan Sonnenblick’s book,” falling over Sideways,” is a realistic fiction about a family's(especially Claire) experience of their dad aftereffects of his stroke. Claire quick reaction to call,” 911,”could save her father's life. She gets asked many questions by the operator about her father's current state. Once the ambulance arrived at the house to people run in with a stretcher. The larger man asks Clair’s father questions, but he is unable to respond. They all get in the ambulance and rush to the hospital. Once they arrive things start to move way too fast for Claire and people are screaming scary words that Claire does not understand. She looks at her phone and she sees a missed call from her brother, Matthew. She contacts her mom and brother and tells them to come to the hospital immediately.There is a commotion at the hospital and Claire starts school the next day. Claire starts to become upset at school and slightly falls behind and she is also sad that she falls behind in dancing(Her friends move up to the high school dance class one year early while she does not). The family has to take care of the, “Man,” of the family taking out of their personal time. Will Claire’s father survive or will this storke be fatal.
I enjoyed reading,”Falling over Sideways,” because Jordan Sonnenblick described the character well therefore letting me understand their experiences, more in depth. For an example When Claire arrives at the hospital the writer describes the scene really well so I can feel I am being in their shoes. I think Jordan Sonnenblick is a good writer because even though he is a Man, he is able to write like a teenage girl. In ,”Falling over Sideways,” the book is written like a flashback, so it goes back and then forward all the way to the current time. I am not completly sure but Jordan Sonnenblick might have written this book for someone, like he wrote,”Drums, Girls +Dangerous Pie,” for a girl. This is my second read from Sonnenblick and I am very impressed and I will definitely read the next book in the series. I recommend this book to all readers and especially people that like Realistic Fiction. ...more "
