So transiting to play pop or jazz - for some reason is really difficult for me. I often wonder and admire some of my friends who are able to hear a piece, know the chord structure and play without any scores and know what chords - and not only chords, but out of this world chords (eg how do you even know to play that note? that diminished chord? etc)
Sarah was able to make it easy - like building blocks - from the simple scales, to intervals (explaining the 9, 11 and 13, which are important to jazz). She works through the various fundamentals - in an easy way to understand. There is so much packed in this book and I have to admit, I am going through it really slowly because it's not just about the theory/concept, Sarah provides examples and exercises that you can practice and learn.
All in, a really really great book and I feel that this will be my companion book as I relearn the fundamentals .
(Disclosure: I received an early copy from Sarah and I am truly grateful for her generosity. This is really helping me)....more
