An exceptionally interesting read. While focused at the final state needed for passage of women's suffrage, the book provides a lot of insight into the women who drove the movement and their personal histories. You might expect this story to just uplift you, but the author did not shrink from the uglier side of the fight - the willingness of the leaders who fought to empower women to not only abandon the African Americans who joined forces with them, but to actively throw them to the wolves. Nonetheless, it makes a compelling read about the difficulties of trying to make a major cultural, social, and legal change.
