This book is exactly as the first season of the show. If you have seen it, you can skip it without missing anything important. Only a couple of minor details are different.

The plot was well constructed, and things were happening at exactly the right pace. I was happy to see that even though it's a fast read, nothing was rushed plotwise. Everything made sense and was somewhat realistic. While there are many clichés, they are really well written and well postioned, and i enjoyed them a lot. You have Ruby, the poor girl attending a school for the rich on a scholarship, who puts a lot of work into her studies and dreams about going to Oxford. And in contrast, you have James, a handsome, popular, and extremely rich guy who only thinks about playing lacrosse and messing around with his friends. After ruining one of the school parties, James is punished with having to work in the organizing comitee for the next party, alongside Ruby. Will they be able to work together without getting at each other's throats?
I really liked reading from Ruby and James' POV's. Learning about the way they think and see the world around them was fantastical, and helped me envision how different their lives are.

Another thing i liked was the diversity in the book. Ruby's dad is in a wheelchair, and the author knows how to write about the adversities the family had to go through after the accident without making it a pity party, talking about it as the most normal thing in the world. I would like to see more characters like this in other books. The same goes for Ruby's sister, Ember: a plus-sized fashionista who uses her blog to encourage people to love themselves as well as to bring awareness to the lack of plus-sized options in the most popular brands, and showing her own designs to prove that it's more than duable to make nice clothes in these sizes. I thought the topic was discussed in a great way, and brought up in relevant points.
We also have some lgbtq characters that hopefully we'll get to know better soon!

I would have given it a higher rating, but the writting felt a bit off. I think it's because of the translation i read. I read the spanish version, and some sentences didn't make much sense, while others did make sense but where phrased weirdly, as if it was a very literal translation but nobody would say them that way in spanish. I have to say this is something that disappeared the more i advanced with the book (and i didn't notice at all in book 2 and 3).

So yeah, i would totally recomend this book and i'd give it 3.5 stars. The best is yet to come i feel! ...more "
