"Near the end of the book after they fight the mountain lion they end up killing it. But it had a coast. Old Dan is really hurt and he ends up passing a way.. It hurt Billy and his family so much, but the one person that it hurt the most was Little Ann. She could not live knowing that her best friend is now gone she dies a few days later.. Billy does not fully recover after losing dogs that were so important to him. W" — Jan 02, 2013 06:43AM
