"My lord, this is taking forever for me. It's hefty, thats for sure, and a bit slow. I think that the author lack subtly at points, almost explaining things to death, especially about the pointed racism shown. I still like it, im just sure it will take me awhile yet." Dec 16, 2025 11:32AM

“He hasn’t played a clean game in years,” Kevin admitted, “but he knows how to follow orders. If you tell him to submit, he will.” “Literally the most awkward way you could’ve worded it,” Jeremy said.

“He wrapped his palm around the iron. “I do not understand humans, but I think I am beginning to understand you.” “You are?” “You heard the whistle, and so you came to soothe my ears with music.” I cleared my throat and pulled my cap lower over my eyes. “So?” He tilted his head thoughtfully and, in English, said, “So, your name suits you too, Boy Named Kind.”

Jonathan Haidt
“When there is ambiguity, people look to each other to see what everyone else is doing. Those cues help define the situation. Is it an emergency? If everyone else is just sitting there, each individual comes to the conclusion that no, it is not an emergency. The diffusion of digital technology into children’s lives has been like smoke pouring into our homes. We all see that something strange is happening, but we don’t understand it. We fear that the smoke is having bad effects on our children, but when we look around, nobody is doing much about it.
The most important lesson here is to speak up. If you think the phone based childhood is bad for children and you want to see a return to play-based, say so. Most people share your suspicion but they're not sure what to do about it.”
Jonathan Haidt, The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Caused an Epidemic of Mental Illness

“Love in your novels, I think, acts as a form of hope. Why hope?... I want to know about love"
"But isn't love a form of hope?"
"No, love is crushing. Love is something you let yourself feel at your own peril despite your better sense."
"True, it's all those things. But where would we be if we didn't feel it? I think it's the only form of hope we have, for our survival I mean. What good is any other virtue without love? In literature, love is a weakness.... Love is not the weakness, people get it its way people are weak and perilous, not love.”
Lily King;, Heart the Lover

“He gazed at Xie Lian. "If your dream is to save the common people, then my dream is only you."

"..." Relying on his memory, Xie Lian asked with a trembling voice, "But... you won't... be able to rest in peace... like this...?"

Hua Cheng answered, "I pray to never rest in peace.”
