"Maybe I'm feeling extra "eat the rich" cynical of late, but the sisters/family being disgustingly rich even *before* the inheritance and insufferably perfect and successful across the lot just rubs me the wrong way. I am not sure I'll be able to get into this book, but I'll give it a fair shake." Oct 07, 2025 04:56PM

Maria V. Snyder
“Yelena, you've driven me crazy. You've caused me considerable trouble and I've contemplated ending your life twice since I've known you." Valek's warm breath in my ear sent a shiver down my spine.

"But you’ve slipped under my skin, invaded my blood and seized my heart.”

“That sounds more like a poison than a person,” was all I could say. His confession had both shocked and thrilled me.

“Exactly,” Valek replied. “You have poisoned me.”
Maria V. Snyder, Poison Study

Terry Goodkind
“Kahlan guide me. Kahlan teach me. Kahlan protect me. In your light I thrive. In your mercy I am sheltered. In your wisdom I am humbled. I live only to love you. My life is yours.”
Terry Goodkind, Wizard's First Rule

Christopher Paolini
“As he was about to leave, she said, "Murtagh."
He paused and turned to regard her.
She hesitated for a moment, then mustered her courage and said, "Why?" She thought he understood her meaning: Why her? Why save her, and now why try to rescue her? She had guessed at the answer, but she wanted to hear him say it.
He stared at her for the longest while, and then, in a low, hard voice, he said, "You know why.”
Christopher Paolini, Inheritance

Sarah Ockler
“This boy wore the ocean in his eyes, green-gray-blue, ever shifting, and I recognized him immediately. Knew before he said another word that he was as dangerous as he was beautiful.”
Sarah Ockler, The Summer of Chasing Mermaids

Shel Silverstein
“He wasted his wishes on wishing.”
Shel Silverstein, Where the Sidewalk Ends
