One day the area in Perdido Beach based around the power plant is enclosed in an impenetrable sphere wall. Everyone over the age of 16 disappears and many kids and animals start to develop superhuman abilities. The books in the series (Gone, Hunger, Lies, Plague, Fear, and Light which has yet to come out) focus on one problem the kids are having. The main characters in the book narrow down to about 8 kids. These teenagers become the leaders in the new society and each one plays a different role. After the barrier appeared two general sides were created by the two most powerful kids, Sam and Caine. Sam is the strong, good-hearted warrior and Caine represents a tyrant with his power but he is also a fighter and a natural leader because of his skill and smarts. There are other main characters in the series like Quinn, Astrid, Edilio, Albert, Diana, Drake and Pete. They all represent a different idea ranging from knowledge and patience to murder and torture. The characters in the book play a huge part in telling the story and they are very easy to connect to. This is because there is always a trait in one of the characters that is similar to someone. When reading a book it is important to feel connected because it makes everyone want to read what the author has written and demands attention. Fear is about the worries of the kids in the “FAYZ” because the dome they are trapped in is going dark and there are dangers lurking everywhere. The narration in this book is omniscient and changes throughout the chapters. It rotates through the main characters who can be in different situations and places in Perdido Beach. Third person narration is helpful in the story because a wider variety of opinions and predicaments are shown. A recurring theme in the book is that “more can be done as a team than as an individual.” This is because many times in the book, different people try to make it on their own or deal with a problem by themselves. The result would be almost always negative, ending in a death or injury. When the kids came together they could accomplish more and end whatever problem they had. I would recommend the book to anyone who likes reading fiction books full of action and suspense. ...more "
