I thought this book deserved a Goodreads Award. Almost the entire book was written from diaries, logbooks and official records. To do this while making it seem like a work of fiction took the genius of Erik Larson. We learn that Randolph Churchill, Winston's only son was a cad to his lonely wife. We see his daughter go from a young girl to a young woman. The time-frame of the book begins with the evacuation of Dunkirk and ends when the United States enters the war on December 7, 1941. This is a day by day coverage of Winston's family. Occasionally, it is an hour by hour coverage through the Blitz, etc.
