“In one study, I found that almost all of our patients with poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis (a type of glomerulonephritis that appears shortly after an infection with streptococci) had been exposed to organic solvents for several years or they had been exposed during the period between the streptococcal infection and the start of the glomerulonephritis. Half a year after the submission of the paper, it was rejected, because the editor considered my conclusion was ridiculous. How did I explain that Indians living in the forests of Trinidad got poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis? My paper was accepted by another journal however, and a few years later I read that many forested areas in Trinidad are criss-crossed by oil and gas extraction infrastructures. Probably some of the Indians had worked at these places.”

“As far as I’m concerned, high school sucked when I went, and probably sucks now. I tend to regard people who remember it as the best four years of their lives with caution and a degree of pity. For most kids, it’s a time of doubt, stress, painful self-consciousness, and unhappiness. They’re actually the lucky ones.”

“Ketones help minimize free radical production in the body, while cancer cells thrive in the presence of reactive oxygen species. Ketones boost antioxidant production in healthy cells surrounding cancerous tumors—something scientists believe may help prevent cancer cells from growing and spreading. Ketones have also been found to help mitigate the effects of traditional radiation and chemotherapy cancer treatments.”
