IHave you ever faced a difficult decision, to help a friend very dear to your heart? In the story “Hollow City” by Ransom Riggs, the second book in the trio of adventurous book about a group of not so normal kids, and their guardian, miss peregrine. In the story, “Hollow City”, by Ransom Riggs, a bunch of peculiar children, with special powers need to save their keeper, and parent, Miss Peregrine. She is a ymbryne, stuck in bird form, after being attacked by whites. They need to find a another ymbryne to fix her. The whites sprayed a chemical on her, that stops them from going into human, when they kidnapped her, and took her into a big submarine. The peculiar children set out on a journey across a sea, through the woods, trying to get to London. They also are being chased by whites. They are almost to a train, when the whites capture them and take them. The characters are Jacob (the main character), Emma, bronwyn, Claire, Millard, olive, Horace, Enoch, Hugh, Fiona, miss peregrine, Jacob's parents, Esmeralda, the whites, the hallows, and many more. The setting is in many places. It mostly takes place in Europe, during the Second World War. It also takes place in different loops, created by different ymbrynes. The main problem, and or conflict, is that miss Peregrine, the peculiar children’s guardian and or parent, is ill. She is stuck in bird form and can’t become human. She was attacked, and kidnapped, when the peculiar children’s loop was raided by whites. Though the kids fought, and succeeded, to get her back, they soon found out that miss p was in danger. If ymbrynes are in bird form for too long, they lose their sanity, or mental health, and become actual birds. They leave their loop, and go across a large sea, in rowboats. They ran from storms, and whites. Once they got to land, it was a game of intense hide and go seek, between the children and the whites. They end in another loop, filled with peculiar animals. They get a tip off that their, ymbryne is in London. They go there, only to be captured. They fight their way out, but there enemy is not only whites, but, since it takes place during wwII, the nazis of Germany. I think this book is really great. The whole part about loops is a little confusing, but it is really cool. It’s cool to see the children in different times. I also really like jacob’s character. He starts out as your normal rich boy. Everything fine. But when his grandfather dies, in a very gruesome way, Jacob is traumatized. He takes meds, and finally goes to the peculiar island, and meets the children. He learns about his ability, and uses it to kill hallows. He does not really know how to use his power, and he is a newcomer, so he knows next to nothing about peculiar culture. It is funny to see him react to all the weird stuff that happens. I would rate this book a 5 stars out of 5, and recommend it to thrill seekers, and fiction lovers....more
