This book made me want to go to California. But I believe the person who's perspective we're seeing this from, Amir is an bad main Character. I personally think Amir is the most frustrating character in this book and could possibly turn people away from this because of that.

Amir is mostly the main reason I don't like this book and even though it's only the first couple of chapters in this book, He's 12 which just makes me more mad at him because he's just a kid. What he does that irritates me is that he just stands there and lets things happen. He Hassan and Ali are about leave the mansion he just stands there and lets it happen and he doesn't even bother saying goodbye to Hassan. The thing he does that really makes me mad is when Hassan is being raped by Assef and his friends he doesn't do or say anything, even days later after the whole thing is done he doesn't tell him he saw the whole thing. Instead he just bully's him and stops talking to him. He just sandbags the friendship they had over the years and pretends like it never happened, and even when they were friends Amir didn't treat him right either. He told him stories and then would stop reading the actual story and start making stuff up and when Hassan would finally start to get it and challenge Amir he didn't like. He didn't like the idea of him and Hassan being equals and I think that's one of the worst things in this book.

Later when Hassan is on the other side of Amir's door, he's asking what he could do so that they can be friends again, but I think that's what Amir should be asking becasue none of this was Hassan's fault it was all Amir's fault. and personally, when Assef punched Amir in the gut I was glad that happened because I think He deserved it. In other words I could keep ranting on about how Amir is a bad character with no character development, but I'll just end by saying through the whole book he lacks empathy.

But in conclusion I think the book and everyone else in the book is fine. But I just wish Amir was a better character in general. ...more "
