"I'm having trouble putting this book down in my classes. I don't usually read books with themes of romance in it, but I hope I can continue to enjoy it as the plot picks up. Also, I just started collecting vinyl records, so having aspects of music and records in the story is really fun to read about. I'm considering making a playlist of the songs highlighted in the book to listen to while re-reading certain scenes." Nov 02, 2022 05:22AM

Jeff VanderMeer
“This water was so dark we could see our faces in it, and it never stirred, set like glass, reflecting the beards of gray moss that smothered the cypress trees. If you looked out through these areas, toward the ocean, all you saw was the black water, the gray of the cypress trunks, and the constant, motionless rain of moss flowing down. All you heard was the low moaning. The effect of this cannot be understood without being there. The beauty of it cannot be understood, either, and when you see beauty in desolation it changes something inside you. Desolation tries to colonize you.”
Jeff VanderMeer, Annihilation

Gabriel García Márquez
“He really had been through death, but he had returned because he could not bear the solitude.”
Gabriel García Márquez, One Hundred Years of Solitude

Albert Camus
“O light! This is the cry of all the characters of ancient drama brought face to face with their fate. This last resort was ours, too, and I knew it now. In the middle of winter I at last discovered that there was in me an invincible summer.”
Albert Camus, L’été

Donald J. Trump
“What's the point of having great knowledge and keeping them all to yourself?”
Donald J. Trump, Why We Want You To Be Rich: Two Men, One Message

W. Somerset Maugham
“It was a night so beautiful that your soul seemed hardly able to bear the prison of the body.”
W. Somerset Maugham, The Moon and Sixpence
