This story is narrated by the main character Reesa McMahon a young girl who's family is from the North so it isn't easy for her them to adjust or begin to understand the way , or adjust to life in the south.Life for young Reesa is full of childish innocence and fun times with her family friend Marvin Cully, but everyone's life is turned upside down when Marvin is brutally beaten and killed by the Ku Klux Klan.After this Ressa rejects her neighbors' generosity and Southern charm due to her knowledge of their bigotry and violence.McCarthy tries to show the reader that even when those around you are doing things that you feel isn't right you should stand for what you believe in,and what you feel is right at all times no matter what may come your way.I found the way McCarthy chose to write this book very interesting how she shows the way life in a radical time period of the world,and we get to know just who she feels about all that she feels about what is going on around her more easily. The narrator spoke of in such a way that made me feel as though the pain and suffering her family was going through was my very own.Her voice was both calm and sometimes joyful, but when shes going through her pain with the death of her friend shes said a lot and cries a lot as well.

Ressa Mahon is a young innocent girl who is facing a terrible time as a kid with the loose of her good friend Marvin so she was once a church girl who keep her head in the bible but er faith in good has sort of left her because she can't have faith in a God that would allow an innocent person die the way Marvin did. Then there's Warren Mahon who's a small package store owr who's from the North and is a very kind man who wants the best for his family, but finds himself in the middle of a murder that doesn't just shake up his house hold but the house hold of a close family friend so he finds himself choosing to do what is right and try and help his friend find justice for the unlawful death of his son. I feel sorry for Ressa because no young child should have to deal with a lose of a close friend or lose faith in God because he or she feels God isn,t looking over them or the people they love.And I admire the courage of Warren because it took a lot for him to stay true to himself and believe what he felt was right and to put himself in harms way to help a friend isn't always easy.

Lay that Trumpet in our Hands took place in Central Florida. Set in the 1950s and based on true events, LAY THAT TRUMPET IN OUR HANDS explores a darker and more real side to Florida's touristclogged beaches.Today I feel Florida hasn't changed much from the times that took place in this book given there aren't white men riding horses with bed sheets hiding their faces, there is still a number of white men killing young black men and getting away with there actions. For example, the Travon Martain case still haunts my mind making me feel as a young black man I can't walk down the streets at night and feel safe.So Today I feel we still face so similar problems as the people in this book not as savvier and in the open but it's still there.The author's style of writing kinda made it seem as though the narrator was speaking directly to me, letting me in on all the pain she felt and how she felt about the ones she loved detail to detail on why they were important to her making me feel as though they were my own family , and let me know in detail why she didn't like certain people which mad me see them as enemies as well. Lay that Trumpet in Our Hands is about the Social unrest and uprising in the age of the Civil Rights movement are the subjects of this book.

This book can be related to the killing of young African American men all around American where parents stand up and fight to see their kids killer in jail, they don't listen to "it was self defense", or "it was an accident", they go above and beyond to seek justice for the killing of there innocent child.In my life I have been blessed to never have been an victim of injustice or have anyone close to me go through anything like that so I can't say this book relates to me.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves to read books about the civil rights movement and to see how people come together even of different races to fight against discrimination. ...more "
