What a delight this was!

Seeing the reviews of this book, I was unsure whether I would like it, but honestly... I think a lot of people missed the point of this book after I finished it.

My family has this phrase, "It's not just 3 hours of sand." Basically, after watching Dune, I read different reviews, and a lot of them expressed that the movie was too long. And one person wrote, "It was just watching 3 hours of sand." Upon hearing this, my brother exclaimed with disappointment, "It's not just 3 hours of sand." Because he appreciated every single second of the movie, taking in all it had to offer, and the purpose of those scenes that showcased just "sand". Thus, whenever people use the excuse that it was boring, too long, or some other reason, and we feel that they missed the whole point, we use this phrase.

So! To those who said this book was too long and boring? I have to beg to differ and say . . . "It was not just 3 hours of sand."

Yes, maybe to a 12-year-old, it might seem a bit . . dragging. But as a 24-year-old, I enjoyed all the descriptions. The slow-moving storytelling of Prue and Curtis's adventure. It created this magic and whimsy, it welcomed the slow coming of winter, while also keeping all the structures of creating a fairytale story. Helping readers appreciate the atmosphere and aesthetic of Wildwood.

So what is the point of the book?

That's not for me to say or decide for you. I think many things can be interpreted and learned from Colin Meloy's story. But let me just say, it's relevant to the problems we are facing today . . . government-wise.

The plot was so unique! I loved it. The characters and their world were so intriguing and something I haven't read in a long time.

What helped even more was the art. So beautiful. I think more adult books should have art in them. Because I miss it.

The messages of family bonds, appreciating wildlife, fighting for those you love, and never giving up decorate the pages of this book, creating a story for all ages to fall in love with and enjoy. :) ...more "
