Patterson masters the use of suspense to keep the reader on the edge of their seat, and the book has frequent but satisfying cliffhangers. The chapters are relatively short, usually only around two or three pages, but the points of view often change after every few chapters. The book doesn’t only focus on Trevor Mann, the main character, but also on some people in Washington and other places. There are also some new gadgets and items introduced throughout the book, most of which seem too unbelievable to be in this type of story. These objects, however, do prove to be crucial as the story continues.
The novel centers on Trevor Mann, whose whole life changed in the course of just one day. The change starts when he learns that his girlfriend, Claire, had been murdered during a taxi mugging. When he goes looking for the person that Claire was going to meet for information to be used in the New York Times, he doesn’t find the informant, but something much worse. From then on, he is involved in the mystery of what happened to Claire. However, Trevor does not have to crack the case alone, as he meets a new friend who is always trying to keep the both them alive. This new friend also happens to be part of the reason why it takes so much effort for Trevor to stay alive. To find out what Trevor finds when he looks for Claire’s informant, what happens to him after that, and who his friend is, you’ll just have to read the book. And when you’re done with that, I suggest reading some of James Patterson’s other books, as most of them are pretty good.
The best part of this book was by far the overall plot development. As the story progressed, the plot became more and more detailed, with new characters being added at different times. The plot is unpredictable, and each new chapter has the potential to contain a completely unforeseen surprise. Will Trevor Mann finally receive justice for Claire’s death? Will he perish trying to do so? The only way to find out is to read the book to the very end. I would recommend Truth or Die to anyone who enjoys reading crime/mystery novels, especially ones that focus on detectives and the police. ...more "
