I found this account riveting. The author has brilliantly and seamlessly interwoven personal interviews, newspaper reports, and archived US Army unit histories into a compelling story of young men serving their country in WW2 Europe, I learned that he actually drew up on the unit reports written by my father-in-law, TSGT John Long, as morning report clerk for the 36th Armored Regiment (one of the many "doughs". This is thé first time I could imagine what it must have been like!
