The plot of the overall story is very interesting, because it keeps you guessing. So far, I am not very into the book yet, though I am already guessing about who is the culprit for the mystery, and what happened. The thing about Sherlock Holmes is that it is so unexpected and so unpredictable that it keeps you going. It has a different type of suspense that makes you want to read on, yet its chapters don't end with cliffhangers or different types of tools that you would use for suspense.

Thoughts
I like how the story takes everything between Sherlock and Watson back to the beginning, where they didn't know each other and how they ended up together in the same apartment. It is really interesting, and also amusing, to see Watson's obvious astonishment at Sherlock's unexpected observations about other people, and himself. I also like how Watson relays a lot more emotion about Sherlock than in other books, because how new he is to Sherlock's habits and ways of thinking, and how unusual a character Sherlock is. I also think that Watson's obvious thinking and annoyance at what he perceives as Sherlock's 'cockiness' is very amusing, as he gets so worked up and stressed about Sherlock's modum operatio, while the whole time Sherlock sits there amused at Watson's befuddlement. I also like how Doyle makes Sherlock seem so amazing and smart, while he still retains that human trait of sometimes letting his emotions go loose. It makes Sherlock a lot easier to relate to in terms of the audience reading the book, and it also makes Watson easier to relate to, as you know his thoughts and emotions, as he is the one narrating the book.

Conclusion
Overall, I really like A Study In Scarlet, because it is so original in comparison to the other Sherlock Holmes books, yet it still maintains that 'air' of Sherlock, and that mood of the story that all of Doyle's Sherlock books have. It makes each and every one of the books fun and interesting to read, regardless whether Sherlock is still the same character, or the plot has some other characters that have been in other books. It's just fun to read a book with a totally different mystery and storyline, yet still has the same interesting and original characters. ...more "
