Lucy is a strong woman, who served in her planet’s home guard before she applied to adopt one of the Imberian pod-babies. She’s accustomed to dealing with unexpected hardships, overcoming hardships, lending her hands, and hard work. But Atropos’ forbidding landscapes and the difficult journey to her new ranch are filled with even more struggles than she anticipated encountering. Starting with the handsome Invicta warrior sent to guard her new daughter.
Arik has dealt with all kinds of adversity, but guarding baby Flora comes with challenges he had no way of preparing for. Such as the fact that her new home is on such an inhospitable planet that shelters vicious rustlers. Or that Flora’s new Mother is his mate.
Arik and Lucy’s story takes place over a several-day journey to their new home. And it’s fraught with dangers from the environment and weather of Atropos, the threat of rustlers and losing their herd before they ever arrive, and the difficulties of navigating their new mate-bond. The hardest of which is restraining themselves until they finally make it home.
I inhaled this new story, and am already looking forward the the next two set on Atropos: Jett and Zyon. No doubt Madeline and Kora’s stories will be just as thrilling as Lucy’s! Arik and Lucy’s journey sees them finding their way, themselves, and each other as well as their footing in their new family with the ever-cheerful baby Flora. They learn to play to each other’s strengths and navigate co-parenting as well as supporting each other in their weaknesses in a way that feels very romantic because of their powerful chemistry and strategically parsed out steamy moments. Their journey makes their love-story feel almost slow-burn despite the short timespan and the dragon’s undeniable urge to claim his mate. Arik is a great point in the series for any new readers to jump in, as it’s the beginning of a new trilogy within the larger series. And whether you’re new to the series (or Tasha), I’m certain after reading Arik that you’ll be eager to read the other two books set on Atropos as well as the trilogies set on Clotho and Lachesis. ...more "
