I was looking for a long, boring and slow-paced book to help me fall asleep, and I picked this one. Oh boy, I was so wrong. First of all, it's not slow-paced at all, nor is it boring. It's both hilarious and full of moments of suspense and tension. This world Erin got isekai'd too is surprisingly dangerous, and Erin and her friends often end up fighting for their lives. Then we are introduced to Ryoka, and Ryoka also ends up in many dangerous and life-threatening situations, although a large part of them are due to her sheer stupidity and pride, and there were definitely moments where I got fed up with Ryoka's stubbornness and massive ego, so I loved her character not as much as Erin. Other than danger, this world can be surprisingly cruel and gruesome, it's not an easy world to live in, so if you're looking for a cozy fantasy with only wholesome vibes and no gore and heartbreak, this will be the wrong book for you. The author has no qualms killing off characters and there's also a fairly disturbing part of body horror at the end of the book, so check the trigger warnings and make sure that won't bother you before you dive into this book. I actually got close to weeping several times, and the narrator did an AMAZING job at all the different voices for the different characters, making them all feel unique and recognizable, which is difficult with a book with this many different characters. I had an absolute blast with this book and I immediately bought the audiobook for the second book because I am obsessed.

*EDIT* Second read, January 30th:
I finished the second book in two days time and decided to reread the first two books before diving into the third, and I was surprised at how many small little details or "filler" chapters actually serve a purpose in the overarching story? If there are chapters you don't get the point of, or that feel like a side story, I promise they all matter and serve a bigger purpose, the writing is so amazing. I'm changing my review from 4.5 to 5 stars. (I always round down my star ratings) ...more "
