You know a book is good when you stay up way too late because you just want to read "one more chapter."

When They Find Me is a fast-paced thriller with short chapters that had me hooked right from the beginning. Expanse, Colorado (population 313), is a place where everyone tends to keep to themselves. Told through a dual timeline and multiple perspectives, the story follows Annie and her daughter, Coral, who live in isolation while hiding from their past. Meanwhile, the story also follows Coyote, a mentally unwell and feral father with cult-like beliefs, along with his daughter (Riven) and son (Boone), as Coyote seeks revenge against the man he believes destroyed his family.

But when Riven knocks on the door, expecting the man inside to answer so she can carry out her first kill, the door is instead opened by Annie. Riven's plan quickly unravels when she realizes they have targeted the wrong house. Little do they know that, despite it being the wrong house, Annie has always been preparing for a moment like this. Caught in a snowstorm just two days before Christmas, with Christmas music playing in the background, Annie fights fiercely to protect her daughter from Coyote and his pack.

The character development in this book was great. I had such a vivid picture of Coyote in my head and developed an intense dislike for both him and his son Boone, while also finding myself with a soft spot for Riven. Then there was Annie. She was smart, fearless and strong, which is one of my favourite types of female characters.

Overall, this was a very solid thriller with some great twists that had me turning the pages late into the night. While the ending left me wanting just a little more closure in one storyline, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. If you're looking for a fast-paced thriller with short chapters, strong characters and plenty of suspense, I think this one is definitely worth your time.
