Krista and Becca continue to outdo themselves with every new release. The Addicted series and the Like Us series are my favorite book series of all time, so naturally the Cobalt Empire series has been SO highly anticipated for me. Burn Bright exceeded all my wildest dreams and expectations!! If you have been looking to start reading Krista and Becca Ricthie’s books but are intimidated by their backlist and don’t know where to start, look no further! Burn Bright is a GREAT jumping off point, and jam packed with all the things that Krista and Becca are known for and do best: Strong Family Bonds, Found Family, Friendship, Soulmate Love, Angst, and ALLL the DRAMA!! This book will take you on SUCH and EMOTIONAL rollercoaster, and I can say with absolute certainty that Ben was the PERFECT choice to kick off our Cobalt Empire Era!!!

Ben Pirrip Cobalt. My Pippy!!! I have had such a soft spot for Ben since the first time we met him in Some Kind of Perfect. Ben has always felt a divide between himself and his siblings and parents. His interests and passions have always been different than theirs, and and first glance, it can seem as thought his values don’t necessarily align with those of his family. Because of this sense of feeling like an outsider looking in on his family, Ben offers the reader this same feeling, making him the ideal Cobalt to kick off the Cobalt Empire series with. We grow closer with and learn more about each Cobalt brother as the book progresses, right alongside Ben.

Harriet Fisher. I can say with absolute sincerity that Harriet is one of my favorite characters that Krista and Becca have EVER written. I feel such a kinship with this girl, she is just so so special to me. We meet Harriet in the Like Us series, but really get a closer look at her (and Ben) in Nobody Like Us. It is obvious from our very first introduction of Harriet that she is a complex character with a lot of layers, and I was so excited to learn more about her in Burn Bright. Harriet has a hard exterior, but has such a soft heart. Harriet hasn’t had an easy life, and has fought so incredibly hard to get to where she is today. Ben really is her safe space, and vise versa. We watch as she lets down her walls and becomes vulnerable with him. Harriet was such an important reminder to me that my past does not define who I am today, and where I am now is not where I have to end up. I really am tearing up writing about her, and I just cannot wait for everyone to meet her and fall in love with her. She is truly so special and important to me, and I know that so many others will resonate with and see themselves in her story.

Ben and Harriet’s relationship is built on such a strong foundation of friendship. The two of them quickly become the most important people in each other’s lives. Harriet has gone her whole life without being able to depend on anyone, and while Ben has a lot of surface level friendships, he has never gotten to be vulnerable and show the truest, rawest, parts of himself to anyone. Their friendship is honest and free of judgment which allows for them to get to know each other on such an intimate level. The progression of their relationship from platonic to romantic happens so organically that it feels inevitable that they are fated to be together. Their chemistry is impossible to ignore, and their love runs so deep. They are the purest, realest versions of themselves when they are together. Ben and Harriet each grow so so much both independently and as a couple. Throughout all the high highs and low lows that they go through during the book, it is clear that they were meant to find each other and end up together.

All of the Cobalt’s play such an important role in this book. It was so much fun to learn more about all the Cobalt brothers, and to watch them all interact. It was never a dull moment when all five of them were together, and I cannot wait to see how they will continue to grow both as brothers and independently as the series progresses. While Eliot still remains my favorite Cobalt brother, (my man, my man, my MAN) I genuinely cannot WAIT for each and every one of their books!! We get soooo many easter eggs and teasers into each brothers possible love interest(s) throughout Burn Bright; I simply cannot wait to see who will be featured in book two!!!

There is SO MUCH MORE that I wish I could say about Burn Bright, but in the interest of avoiding spoilers, I can’t. This is not only my favorite book of 2025, this is also one of my new all time favorite Krista and Becca Ritchie books. Burn Bright & Ben and Harriet are so precious to me, and I know that this will be a book that I will return to often to re read. Burn Bright quickly became such a comfort read to me. Krista and Becca continue to write the books and characters that mean the absolute world to me, and I am just so thankful for them and their books. Burn Bright is so incredibly special, and I cannot wait for everyone to read it!!
