"Reading X’s autobiography has given me a deeper understanding of his struggle and an understanding of my own. I can feel his pain and I tend to find humour in his side comments. You really have to be able to read between the lines and imagine that you are him, in the same period; a black man with trauma and passion for his people. If you can’t do that, you won’t get his story. Grateful to be reading his words." — Aug 25, 2019 09:14PM

"Angela Davis is an icon! So far this book has given me topics to build of off like identity politics and the current blocks that it’s causing movements. She relates how police responded to what happened in Ferguson to what’s going on in Palestine and demonstrates the importance of working together, seeing each other’s struggle as what it truly is: a struggle. Rather than comparing." — Aug 25, 2019 09:05PM

“When I get lonely these days, I think: So BE lonely, Liz. Learn your way around loneliness. Make a map of it. Sit with it, for once in your life. Welcome to the human experience. But never again use another person's body or emotions as a scratching post for your own unfulfilled yearnings.”
