Having been there myself, I can really relate to this. It seems that Edith felt the need to always be public, whereas her husband could distinguish between the two. Organising his funeral is a good example off this, where it couldn't just be a family affair. According to Franky, their son and the author, it had to be a special event for the public. I found this really sad. It resounds the truth of the evangelical movement and the need (pressure) to keep up appearances and not have a sacred, private life!
