think we would all agree that a novel is nothing if it is not the expression of an individual voice, of a single view of experience—and how many good or even interesting novels, of the thousands published, appear each year?
I don't think the point I am about to make is what Didion intended, but I like thinking that since each novel is an individual voice/experience…something the author wants to explain, that with each novel I read I am expanding my POV and more apt to listen/try to understand others. Or at least, that is the hope.
