I've read The Passage multiple times (it is still the strongest in the trilogy, in my humble opinion anyway) and The Twelve a few times as well... But this is the first time I've ever read The City of Mirrors.
I'll admit that I was a little worried going into it - what was going to happen to the characters that I knew and loved? How would the world end or begin again? What would I do with my life once I was finished?! - and, from the start, there were a couple of things that I wasn't too keen on - I'll avoid spoilers but will say it involves dreams, love and the farmhouse of old.
But then the story jumps forwards 20 years and not only do we have older and (sometimes) wiser versions of the original gang, we also have Caleb and his family and Kate and her family playing more pivotal roles. I loved the introduction of new, large characters and found myself falling in love with them and their journeys as I did with the journeys of their families in the books before.
Honestly, I felt every emotion going as I read through it but there was always an underlying sense of wonder - Justin Cronin has continued to write with the same spirit and excitement as he did for The Passage and I must say that I swiftly found myself hooked.
I love that he ended the world, saved the world and rebuilt the world across the course of these books and I am thankful for the characters that he bought along on that journey.
Did it end completely how I wanted it to? No. Is that necessarily a bad thing? Definitely not. Did it still feel, after everything that had happened, right? Yes... And that is why I loved this book.
As soon as I finished it, I cried because I feel like I have lived with these characters, with this whole story for the whole duration of the books... And they span centuries.
I would highly recommend these books to anyone and everyone. ...more "
