Her departure from her previous books backdrop of Dublin was brave of her and I saw it as a win for me, the reader.
In her big city setting fighting crime together with a rushed sense of frantic living has both hooked while exhausted me.
I am a small town soul, slow to change, knowing all the rules when everyone will instantly know all your secrets and guess at your motives. Thus “The Searches” spoke to my roots and also to life experience when an “outsider” arrives. Through in a little modern cowboy swagger and this book set the hook.
Ms. French created such a finely tuned village in a rural setting with a problem and a interloper...complications guaranteed!
I found myself admiring her description of a new physical terrain and a new small village dynamic fascinating. I was sad to come to the final page. I want to go back and visit again and see if anything else erupts around our lone conflicted American.
Ms. French, the splendid, engaging read was a perfect diversion for these times! Thank you for my exciting mini vacation tinged with dark secrets and satisfying internal and external conflict....more
