Sarah, I am thoroughly impressed. This was far better than the last one. I was not emotionally stable for this I think. There was a lot of learning about sacrifice and making sure a sacrifice was not for nothing. “She did not regret ensuring the animal’s sacrifice had not been in vain.” I think that was a had concept to often grasp my head around. After this point, there will be spoilers, so continue at your own risk.

First off, the romance, that is not really a romance! Eek! We finally get introduced to Rowan and at first what may seem like a brooding asshole is actually a man who has seen centuries of trauma and heartbreak. He does not shy away from the hard stuff and acknowledges that when you are down, your enemies will just strike harder. He lost his mate centuries ago, we learn this after Celaena shared her turmoil with Nehemia, Chaol, and so much more. I as a reader question if there is such thing as only one mate because Celaena and Rowan are sure as hell mates. I mean: “Perhaps they would never get out of it, perhaps they would never be whole again, but … ‘Together,’ she said, and took his outstretched hand. And somewhere far and deep inside her, an ember began to glow.” We will not know for a couple of books because we are currently reading the prequel that you are not supposed to read as a prequel… Whatever that means.

This was a book of hatred for Chaol. Well maybe not entirely hatred, but disgust. “‘Do you still love her?’ He didn’t know why he cared, why it was important. Chaol closed his eyes for a moment. ‘A part of me will always love her. But I had to get her out of this castle. Because it was too dangerous, and she was … what she was becoming …’ ‘She was not becoming anything different from what she always was and always had the capacity to be. You just finally saw everything. And once you saw that other part of her …,’ Dorian said quietly. It had taken him until now, until Sorscha, to understand what that meant. ‘You cannot pick and choose what parts of her to love.’ He pitied Chaol, he realized. His heart hurt for his friend, for all that Chaol had surely been realizing these past few months. ‘Just as you cannot pick which parts of me you accept.’” I am sorry, woah. This is something that all teenage girls should read because this is something that you need to remember. That is all for the Chaol slander for now, because he slightly redeems himself, but will not be entirely forgiven until he frees Dorian from that Wyrstone collar…

This is obviously before she realizes who she wants to truly be and what needs to happen. That was all thanks to a lovely flashback when we got this tid bit of information about the night of her parents death. “The King of Adarlan looked at her for a third time—and smiled.” He had facilitated the whole dang thing! Ugh. Then this also happened, “Their hands clasped between them, he whispered into her ear, ‘I claim you, too, Aelin Galathynius.’” This is after they were carranam and then the lovely saving from a blood oath to Maeve. We love to see this even though she left quickly after back to Adarlan to get the third and final Wrydkey from Arobynn.

Sarah J. Maas has done it again and even at such a young age. Did you know she wrote Throne of Glass when she was 16!?! Like what?! You can sorta tell, but it is also fun to see the growth. Am I right! Thanks for always reminding us that each thing we do is a risk but a risk to ensure we live to the fullest. (I know, cheesy).
