"Just wrapped up confirmation bias. Whooh. This is a big one. Main lesson: find and prioritize cases that disconfirm beliefs and not those that confirm them. As is science, so in life, find control conditions without the variable of interest and see what happens. Also recommends writing beliefs down and actively looking for counterevidence." — Nov 06, 2026 11:41AM

"Oh I'm back to readin this beast alright. Wallace: it's you, me, and the profound loneliness of being alive. Though fragmented, the stories are pulling me in. The boys at Enfield. Cannot say the same about the recovery house just yet. Have no clue what's going on there. But do relate to the recovery bits. Putting in a little effort every day to get this book read!" — Sep 28, 2026 09:39AM

The cities are busy, noisy, and colorful. On the other hand, its countrysides are quiet, calming and peaceful,
“In his forty-third year William Stoner learned what others, much younger, had learned before him: that the person one loves at first is not the person one loves at last, and that love is not an end but a process through which one person attempts to know another.
They were both very shy, and they knew each other slowly, tentatively; they came close and drew apart, they touched and withdrew, neither wishing to impose upon the other more than might be welcomed. Day by day the layers of reserve that protected them dropped away, so that at last they were like many who are extraordinarily shy, each open to the other, unprotected, perfectly and unselfconsciously at ease.
Nearly every afternoon, when his classes were over, he came to her apartment. They made love, and talked, and made love again, like children who did not think of tiring at their play. The spring days lengthened, and they looked forward to the summer.”

“Sonnet XVII
I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.
I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way than this:
where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep. ”
