Have a personal or professional goal or dream that seems to be completely out of reach? Feeling overwhelmed at work or in life and don’t know where to start? Trying break free from an “all-or-nothing” mindset that’s holding you back? You really should read this book. It’s easily my highest recommended and most frequently quoted book.

The first time I read Atomic Habits the quote above quickly became my mantra and ultimately helped me to change the trajectory of my life both personally and professionally. I now own the physical book, the ebook, and the audiobook and I have re-read it several times over the past few years. I’ve found that I take away something new with each re-read. When work or life feel overwhelming I continue to reach for it time and time again to help realign myself and my mindset.

I have struggled with chronic perfectionistic procrastination and ADHD for many years which has effected every aspect of my life. While this book is not intentionally written for ADHD management, it did provide me with strategies and insights that, I realized in hindsight, helped bridge the gaps from my executive dysfunction that had left me feeling perpetually stuck and increasingly frustrated. The practical advice he gives and focus on small actionable steps makes Atomic Habits a great resource for those of us with ADHD and is a reason I return to it frequently.

James walks you through the science of how habits are formed, why they are important, and gives practical strategies you can implement to either develop new habits or change current ones to start making progress in the right direction. While some the content itself my not be monumentally groundbreaking information, he breaks down the science into very accessible pieces without it feeling condescending. I often struggle with personal development books feeling like they read like a textbook. But James does a beautiful job of presenting logical information and actionable solutions in an engaging way here so the book is not only informative but also an enjoyable read.

When I finished this book I felt that I was capable of achieving anything I set my mind to and have been able to successfully integrate its concepts into my life. Atomic Habits helped me build a healthier mindset and even helped me feel confident enough to go for (and get) a promotion I would have never even considered applying for before I read this book. So I know it sounds dramatic, but I don’t care, this is THE BOOK that changed my life and I will ALWAYS passionately recommend it.
