"The end is near.
And, as with most things in this book, it's coming very slowly. The vastness, weirdness and subtle malevolence of the Night Land itself remain the novel's main accomplishment and the hero and his beloved's passing within a mile of the House of Silence is a disturbing reminder of that." — Jan 14, 2019 01:53AM

"Well, I'm being reminded just how good a writer Martin is. This was a Jon chapter. The meeting with Craster feels less foreboding than in the TV series (we're getting up to more or less where I gave up on the show) and is handled with more pragmatism. There's also a lovely - truly lovely - piece of pathetic fallacy that simply blew me away. I'm really rather enjoying this." — Jun 04, 2016 02:12PM
