"The opening story "Because we must begin somewhere" feels weak and rushed. The narrator keeps referring to the protagonist Johnny as an idiot, yet nothing is shown as to what makes him an idiot. The narrator implies that being friendly makes him an idiot. There are many things that can make someone an idiot and being friendly is not one of them. Who is Johnny? Why should we as readers appreciate him?" Jan 10, 2019 03:51PM

Richard P. Denney
“I didn't even notice that my shoes were full of mud by the time I reached the rocky shore. There was ragged yellow police tape tied to some branches, dancing in the wind. It was as if the tape was waving, welcoming me back to place where I would have died.”
Richard Denney, What Lies Beneath

Lana Del Rey
“Who are you?
Are you in touch with all of your darkest fantasies?
Have you created a life for yourself where you can experience them?
I have. I am fucking crazy.
But I am free.”
Lana Del Rey

“When you’re an introvert like me and you’ve been lonely for a while, and then you find someone who understands you, you become really attached to them. It’s a real release.”
Lana Del Rey

“Wait a minute, hold on... The dude dies, and the girl cries so hard that she gets turned into a fountain?
Caroline Goode, Cupidity

“[D]oing nothing meant leaving things exactly the way they were, and that was unacceptable.”
Caroline Goode
