Eventually I discovered that, in fact, a few journalists and others had tried early on to quench the fires of the creeping panic over child sex abuse, but they had been drowned out by the cultural din that surrounded them.
Even just questioning how all this cult activity could be true - with no one being caught in the act, or the discovery of physical evidence - was met with aghast anger and accusations of being a callous fool.
