"Becoming Unconsumed" is a daily devotional appropriate for any woman in any stage of life. Aesthetically gorgeous you can take it anywhere and it will certainly be a conversation starter. I particularly liked it's brief entries that allowed me to fit it in no matter the time of day (although I must admit, I found it to be more effective for me to read in the mornings so that the message could resonate with me throughout the day.) What sets this book apart from other devotionals I have used in the past is the way that it is set up. The first 20 days are guided with a Bible verse, reflection from Lynne, a prayer and a space for the reader to journal. The next 20 days the reader is guided only by a Bible verse with spaces for reflection and response. The last 20 days, the reader becomes the driver on this introspective journey and uses the devotional to find their own meaningful Bible verses and has space to reflect. This set up can be wonderful or daunting depending on the reader. I love the idea of Lynne guiding us in the beginning, then putting the training wheels on, and then letting us ride freely at the end. It is a lovely metaphor in the concept, however, if you are someone like myself who is a "woman of faith but not religion" (per se) the last 20 days might leave you feeling lost especially with regard to seeking Bible verses (I REALLY struggled with that-- so I found my inspiration in the lyrics of hymns and contemporary Christian music. Nonetheless, it CAN be done!). To that end, perhaps that uncomfortable "wilderness" feeling IS part of the journey that invites you to really dig deep. I did enjoy the book and the the way it helped me pause daily to find the beauty, good, and ABUNDANCE that surrounded me in things great and small. It is like a hug and a high-5 from God and any sister reading it at the same time! (I would love to use it as a book club or women's group reading selection so it gets the conversations going and allows for revelations when the reader gets "stuck" along the way!)
