I feel like, in BBC Sherlock, they merged Lestrade and Gregson to create Greg Lestrade and since Gregson was omitted, the fact that Sherlock consistently forgets Lestrade’s name is a callback to that. I’ve never heard this theorised before but it makes sense to me
