"Chapters 1-4 he goes straight into the abuse and how young he was, but later recognizes how he would defend her because he was so afraid of. It becomes more clear that he feels he has no one to help him besides the teachers and principal who made it worse. I was able to understand how lonely and weak he felt against his mother.
