"Twitter spoiled basically this whole book now that Heated Rivalry episodes are airing and yet each scene is still hitting me like a truck. I've cried thrice. This is so so so good- a sequel that's much stronger than the original." Dec 06, 2025 09:58PM

"Vis hasn't even arrived at the academy yet, & there's already been so many vividly memorable scenes.

The whole atmosphere of the Catenan arena, with the hundreds of floating lights & a massive artificial lake where boats battle? Incredible.

I can only imagine how great things get once Vis arrives at the academy. It's already so apparent why this book receives endless praise from fantasy fans. Loving everything!"

Mackenzi Lee
“God bless the book people for their boundless knowledge absorbed from having words instead of friends.”
Mackenzi Lee, The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue

Fonda Lee
“Any old horse will run when it's whipped, but only fast enough to avoid the whipping," Hilo said. "Racehorses, though, they run because they look at the horse on their left, they look at the one on their right, and they think, No way am I second to these fuckers.”
Fonda Lee, Jade City

Benjamin Alire Sáenz
“You're every street I've ever walked. You're the tree outside my window, you're a sparrow as he flies. You're the book that I am reading. You're every poem I've ever loved.”
Benjamin Alire Sáenz, Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World

George Washington
“We sainted St. Tammany (King Tamanend III) because he embodied moral perfection and every divine qualification that a deity could possess. I hold him in higher esteem than the saints of the Roman Catholic Church. He'll forever be the patron saint of America.”
George Washington

Erin Morgenstern
“Strange, isn’t it? To love a book. When the words on the pages become so precious that they feel like part of your own history because they are. It’s nice to finally have someone read stories I know so intimately.”
Erin Morgenstern, The Starless Sea
