Which is why I was ridiculously happy and excited for the announcement of the follow up series staring with Forging Silver into Stars.

I loved this book. It takes place five years after the events of the last Cursebreaker book and follows new characters as well as Tycho who is now grown up from the young boy we met in the original series. Tycho’s chapters were by far my favorite to read. I loved his insight into our friends from the previous books and his journey in this book was just so good.

I enjoyed the addition of the new characters Jax and Callyn a lot as well. While the original series focused on royalty and palace intrigue it was so interesting to get perspectives from those who were not living in palaces and instead dealing with the fallout from the events of the cursebreaker books.

And of course the best part was all the glimpses of Rhen and Gray and Lia Mara and all the mentions of my favorite parts of the previous books. Rhen in particular was a stand out for me and it really addressed some of the issues I had with the end of his story. If it had any qualms at all it would be that I wanted more Harper.

I can see some people saying possibly that this book was mostly set up and to some degree is really their point. There isn’t a ton that “happens” plot wise until the end and there is a greater set up happening. However, I think there is a ton here with character development and growth.

It would be so easy for Kemmerer to not push on the sensitive points of her world building but instead of letting everything stay, she pushes hard and sees how far the tension can go. I love how magic is treated in these books. People are wary of it and for good reason!

I can’t wait to read more of this series. I’m going to be reading my favorite passages over and over until we get the next one! ...more "
