"So far, the most entertaining book I've read this year! Really like the tension between the main characters. They feel like really fleshed out characters with their own faults. I also love the descriptions of the main character shifting. Very body horror! Super cool. Can't wait to find out what happens next." Jul 29, 2026 01:01PM

Henry James
“I could only get on at all by taking “nature” into my confidence and my account, by treating my monstrous ordeal as a push in a direction unusual, of course, and unpleasant, but demanding after all, for a fair front, only another turn of the screw of ordinary human virtue.”
Henry James, The Turn of the Screw and Other Short Fiction

Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley
“I may die; but first you, my tyrant and tormentor, shall curse the sun that gazes on your misery. Beware; for I am fearless, and therefore powerful.”
Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, Frankenstein: The 1818 Text

Holly Black
“Do not reveal your skill with a blade. Do not reveal your mastery over glamour. Do not reveal all that you can do. Little did Prince Dain know that my real skill lies in pissing people off.”
Holly Black, The Cruel Prince

Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley
“Nothing is so painful to the human mind as a great and sudden change. The sun might shine, or the clouds might lour; but nothing could appear to me as it had done the day before.”
Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, Frankenstein

Cassandra Clare
“She needs air,” she said. “Her corset is probably tormenting her. Has anyone a knife?”
Cassandra Clare, Chain of Gold
