It may seem ridiculous to creatures outside Earth that humans treat others differently according to their skin colors, which were set even before they were even born, not things like personality or actions, but we actually do. Although people know this, they don't try to face it with all their might. It is the oppressed that have to shout out to get attention.
Some might retort that they are not racists. Some might claim there are not much discrimination as people say and that people are overstating it. But lets face it. There are definitely prejudice and discrimination going on in this world . For these to be solved, the oppressed have to shout out and make others realize the importance of this problem.
This book "The Hate U Give" is a good example of these "shouts". It shows the life of a black girl who lives in two worlds, one white and one black. She sees the death of ther friends and the injustice that is held against her people. She stands up and shouts for Justice to the whole world.
This book shows the injustice hled against the Blacks in a casuall but sincere way, making the readers entertained by telling the story of a teenager girls' s life. I think this book is well balanced in the overall but i agree to another commentor's opinion that this books is somewhat slow-paced.
For people who likes exciting and exhilarating books, this might not be the best choice. But as this book can show the problems of the society in Earth and make people actually feel it, i would recommend the book for those readers too. Not for entertainment but for them to know what's going on in the world.
I enjoyed it very much and began to think about the seriousness of discrimination in the world more thoroughly and i think others will too.
To people who are pondering whether they should read this book or not, i say yes. This book is entertaining, useful and helping. So go on and start reading! ...more "
