Jazz and Caribbean music share a parallel development, due mainly to the fact that New Orleans, the cradle of jazz, is part of the Caribbean community.
Went on tour to Cuba with my university jazz band. Would read through it on the tour bus and then see it all playing out at the shows in the evening. Really enhanced the musical experience I had while there! A great intro to Cuban styles.
