The last thing Mia Hall remembers from her normal life is being in the car with her parents and little brother listening to Beethoven on the radio. Suddenly she is looking down at her own mangled body being taken away by an ambulance. In just 10 seconds her whole family has been ripped apart, she follows her body around as she watches the people she loves most visit her. When the time draws nearer she needs to make the hardest choice in life: “should I stay or should I go.”

I think that the theme in this book is something along the lines of don’t take your life or anything in it for granted. I think this theme fits the book well because Mia was really good at anything that had to do with music. She never realized how good she was at it until she went through her memories to help her along her with her decision. Also as she is caught between life and death she watches her boyfriend Adam begging her to stay, not to die, and she realizes how much she would miss him, how much she would miss her best friend Kim and her whole family. She hadn’t realized how much depended on them to make her feel happy and loved, how much they mean to her and how they impact her life. These are some of the big factors that help her make her decision. As Mia gets closer to her final decision, she realizes that in some form she is still technically alive. That’s when she quotes that “dying is easy, living is hard.” At one point in the book Mia gets closer to actually dying then any other point in the book. It takes a very emotional visit from her non-emotional grandfather to make her realize: “Sacrifice, that’s what we do for the people we love.”

I recommend this book to anyone who likes romantic books that also have suspension or a twist. I really recommend this book to people who believe that god does not make all your decisions for you. Those types of people would like this book the best because god gave Mia the choice to go to limbo, in between life and death. Yet he let her make her own choice if she wanted to die and go to heaven, or live and go through all the pain and challenges of getting better. I liked this book because it showed a girl who had a really nice life, that changed to a pretty crappy one in a couple seconds. It had a plot twist and this incident helped Mia to become a more emotional person, to understand others emotions. Something I disliked about this book would be how sad it was. I can get upset about death or loss really quickly because I’ve been through it so I know what it feels like. My favorite part was the ending I liked the ending most because it had a happy ending. Mia got what she wanted which she deserves considering what she had just went through. ...more "
