It is about a group of dragons , a hacker, and an ex-St. George soldier. It starts with Garret an ex-St. George soldier when he is on is way to Paris to spy on his former leader. But when he finds some very disturbing and very terrible news he hurries back to the States to try and find his friend Ember Hill and Riley. But on his way he meets a Eastern Dragon named Jade. Meanwhile Ember and Riley are about to walk into an old Talon facility. Though has they get deeper into the building Ember and Riley get a strange feeling.And they couldn’t get in touch with Wes the hacker. A while after they were looking at stuff they could kind of hear Wes. Soldiers came down the stairs and Riley started swearing. Ember however was not hesitant about shifting. Breathing fire at the soldiers hitting has many St.George has she could soon after. They ran deeper into the level making it harder for them to get out. When bullets came from the stairwell. Ember then looked into the familiar metallic-gray eyes has Garrett was shouting to them “Come on. Most of them are dead or dying.” “Let’s go Firebrand” Riley yells while making his way toward the stairs, breathing fire on the soldiers has he does. They get outside met with a semi. Garret hope in the back “Let’s go. It’s alright. Trust me”. They hope in and the door shuts, leaving them in almost complete darkness. They pull of the highway make a few sharp turns then stop. Few seconds later the door opens and there is Jade standing. Riley questions Garret and Jade for a little bit. They then all get aided by Jade’s monks in the temple. The next morning Garret tells them what he found out about The Order and Talon. They learn that Talon has been having The Order to do it’s dirty work. By killing of rogues and other dragons that don’t want anything to do with the organization. They then later find out that the Order is coming again but this time they're gonna surprise them. Has soon has Garret gave the signal Jade in her dragon form leaped out of the sky landing on two of the trucks and started tearing them apart. Riley and Ember then appeared and started doing the same while Garret was in the trees shooting at the soldier before they knew what was happening. After the fight they cleaned up everything they get back to the temple. They go to a place called The Vault, that is part of a library, that belongs to Talon. After they get in and get to the Vault part an elder dragon talks with them. They are surprised when he said he said he would let them go because he doesn’t like the fact that Talon is working with The Order. When they get out of town Garret decides to contact his former brother Tristan. They meet up and Garret shows him the evidence about Talon and The Order. Tristan leaves with the evidence because Riley and them have more copies. When he gets back to the safe house they wait around until they get an answer from Tristan. When they wait Riley sends Wes and Garret on errands so he can talk to Ember. What Ember says surprises him. He hurls Garret on the wall when they get back but he has news. Tristan wants to meet again but this time everyone is going. When they meet they make a plan to expose the Patriarch The Orders leader. But when they do expose him they is a little mishap. The Patriarch invokes the rite of Trial by Combat. If Garret doesn’t agree to do it he The Patriarch wins. Garret accepts the Trial by Combat. When they meet for the Trial by Combat Riley, Ember, and Wes are with Garret. They start and it gets rough for Garret but once he has learned The Patriarch’s statistics he quickly takes his advantages and beats The Patriarch because he surrendered. But has Garret turns around and start walking away The Patriarch shoots him in the back just before Tristan shot The Patriarch for his doings. Has Garret was losing consciousness in Ember’s arms she was talking to him.
A major theme from the book is that everybody has their own secrets, good or bad. It develops well over the course of the book because there are many different secrets that are being kept from each other throughout the course of the book. It develops in the characters because of who they are has species but also of what they can become. They hide their true face from the outside world. When Riley and Ember were getting raided by the soldiers in the building, Riley just about sacrificed himself for Ember and the underground of rogues. “‘St. George isn’t using its scouts to find the nests. And yet… the number of stikes is at an all time high.’ he made a vague gesture with his hand. ‘How are they finding these dragons? They’re certainly not coming to us,” (page 41). The Order is keeping something from it’s soldiers about how they are getting information on where the nests are. “‘I think you’re going to want to hear what I know,’” (page 52-53). Griffin is keeping something secret from Riley that he knows about Talon. And that information is what Griffin knows that will get Riley’s attention so they both get what they want. “‘Another successful raid, and your men have done well,’” (page 65). The Patriarch is hiding where he is getting information on where to raid for dragons.
The book Soldier was not at all believing or predictable because of the fact the it changes personal point of views every chapter but also because it is about mythical creatures called dragons. My favorite part is when Garret and Ember reunite, there is something between them that is so magical that it doesn’t have words to it. Like how can a Dragon and a Human fall in fall with each other. Dragons were believed to not have any real emotions like a human would. A connection between the book and my life would be that not everybody is how they seem or are told to be. Just like Dragons aren’t always what they seem to be. They can feel emotions just like humans. And you should never just judge someone to be what somebody has told you to be. Just because they seem rich and snotty doesn’t always mean that is what their personality is. You never know until you get to meet them and get to know them which takes a while. Friendship is about taking time to get to know each other, about who you really are. The ending was sad but also happy at the same time. Garret got hurt but The patriarch was defeated and now has to face “God’ for his sins against The Order. I recommend this book to people who like Fantasy, science fiction and adventure because it has all that mixed into this book. I recommend this book because it’s never too predictable. It has twists and turns like a good book should have. It has flaws but it’s accomplishments overcome those flaws. ...more "
