The summary of this book is that Cia lives with her family in the Five Lakes colony, until she has to pack up and go for the testing that she was chosen for. The Testing has many parts to it. The first part of Testing is a number of written exams that test the candidates with their history, math, and reading skills. The second part of the test candidates have to perform extremely dangerous experiments. The third test consists of a group problem solving exercise. The fourth testing is a survival challenge, in which candidates will have to find their way back to Tosu City. To find out if Cia makes it through all these harsh tests you will have to read the book. The genre of this book is dystopian because it has a futuristic society, a worst-case scenario has happened, the government makes you take the test, and last Cia is trapped in doing the test. My overall reaction of the book is that it was an alright book it was full of suspense, because it kept you guessing if Cia was going to survive her next test. What I liked about it was that it was never really boring and I always wanted to keep reading. Cia is a round character because she is overjoyed at first of the news of getting a chance at testing, but her father privately tells her of his memories of the Testing and how terrible things happened to other candidates. And so she was now scared and didn't really want to go and now knows why her mother didn't want her to get picked to go and leave her. I like that Cia like Tomas because Tomas is a foil character because he brings out the best qualities of Cia. Some things I didn't exactly like about the book was that some of the other candidates from The Five Lakes Colony had died while taking some of the tests and I just wanted them all to make it to the end and stop the testing from being the way it is. The point of view is from Cia's, which is first person. This book did hold my initial interest because it was very unique and interesting and I always wanted to read more. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes good and interesting dystopian and a little science fiction too. ...more "
