"Set in Maine, NOT England.. Another reader asked, "Is this novel set in 1930s England?" I counted 104 uses of the word "thus," 102 uses of "lovely," 74 uses of "alas," and 76 uses of "therefore," and 102 uses of "indeed." I get that Josephine is supposed to be a cultured, sophisticated, worldly woman, but come on! This just seems like a sad attempt to throw around British-isms, to..impress?.. readers.
