John Flagganan’s Ranger’s Apprentice number four the battle for Skandia is a fantasy novel taking place in Skandia where the main Characters Will a ranger, Evalyn also known as the kingdom of Aurulen’s princess, Halt a ranger, Horace a battle school apprentice and the skandians who in this novel emulate medieval Vikings. Rangers are a special group of people that act as the kingdom of Aurulen’s eyes and ears and although the book takes place in Skandia, the Rangers and the other characters including Horace and Evanlyn also known as princess Cassandra are all from Araluen. Additionally, the Arulens are in Skandia because a vicious army known as the Temujai threaten annihilate of the Kingdoms west of their homeland and it’s the job of the Rangers to try and prevent them from reaching Arulen and the only way to do that is stop them with the help of the Skandians. I really enjoyed the book due to the fact it was very suspenseful and action-packed as the characters constantly struggled with new obstacles that thoroughly tested their faith, intelligence and will. In addition, the perseverance and courage shown by the characters throughout the book enhances and improves the reading experience for the reader. For example, when battling the Temujai, the Temujai soldiers break through the skandian line who the main characters have aligned with, the temujai soldiers begin to kill many of the archers who the Skandians rely on prodigiously for victory in battle. Furthermore, with a breach in the line, the ranger Will and his friend Horace head to the spot where the Temujai break through and Will and Hoace begin to fight fiercely and show tremendous courage and perseverance as they prevent the Skandian defeat by holding the line. Additionally, the book is very action-packed and suspenseful especially during the main battle in which many times the Skandians and Arulens find themselves hanging on the tip of a cat’s whisker and must quickly improvise to stay in the battle. This book is a great read, especially for the people who like action-packed, suspenseful novels with another obstacle and challenge around every corner mixed into a medieval esk setting with medieval esk weapons. For example, throughout the ensuing battle, the character’s courage is constantly tested and therefore as a result an action-packed book is created. Additionally, in this book, one never knows what obstacle is around the next corner and a lot of suspense is created as a result. This book is a great read, especially for the people who like action-packed, suspenseful novels with another obstacle and challenge around every corner mixed into a medieval esk setting with medieval esk weapons.
